The origins of Gadwal handlooms are believed to date back centuries, possibly to the era of the Kakatiya dynasty. Historical accounts indicate that weavers from Warangal, known for their brocade weaving skills, migrated to Gadwal during the 14th century. A testament to the enduring legacy of Gadwal Pattu Pancha is its continuous supply to the Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam for over five centuries.
